America’s 250th Scavenger Hunt

Join the 250th Scavenger Hunt!

Celebrate 250 years of American history with a fun, hands-on adventure through Franklin! Solve riddles, follow geocaching clues, and scan QR codes to watch videos, explore historic images, and collect code words at each stop. Complete all ten stops and submit your answers to show off your historical smarts!

See how it works below ↓

What to Expect:

• You will find each of the 10 mystery locations by solving a riddle or using coordinates to locate the hidden rock.

• Once you locate the rock, open the rock to reveal the QR Code. Scan the code to find a short video, code word for the stop, and the riddle/coordinates for the next stop. DO NOT TAKE THE ROCK OR ANY OF IT’S COMPONENETS

• When you reach stop 10, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire to submit your name in for a drawing that will take place in October 2026.

Best Practices:

• Respect private businesses: If a stop is located at a private business, please be respectful of other patrons.

• Be mindful of locations of reverence: Treat markers, memorials, and historic sites (treaty sites, Civil War landmarks, etc.) with respect. Speak softly, and don’t climb or touch artifacts.

• Safety first: Conduct the scavenger hunt only during daylight hours. Follow all traffic rules if walking or driving between stops.

• Record your code words carefully: Each stop has a code word—write them down so you can submit your answers at the end of the hunt.

• Share your experience: Tag your photos on social media with @williamsonhistorycenter to show off your journey!

• Questions along the way: Each webpage has a contact email for any questions or guidance.

STOP ONE: The American Revolutionary War (1775-1783)

Riddle

In days of old, tea met the sea,
A protest for a colony.
Today no waves, no midnight sound,
Just treats and tea where three are crowned.
